Proverbs 30:8-9
Remove far from me falsehood and lies; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me,
Lest I be full and deny You and say, Who is the Lord? Or lest I be poor and steal, and so profane the name of my God.
God never would distribute earthly enjoyments so plentifully amongst the wicked, while he commonly gives his own children but little, were it not that he knew that they were in themselves very worthless, a very man, worthless portion.
What man in his wits would be willing to take up with that portion that GOD frequently allots to those that HE hates most?
If GOD did not see all those earthly things to be very worthless indeed, surely HE would not be willing to give the very best of them to those HE hates; HE would reserve some of the choicest for HIS favorites. BUT it is not so.
HE commonly gives the choicest of earthly things, the very cream of all that the earth can afford, to those HE hates, yea, to those HE hates with a peculiar hatred.
HE gives HIS children something of those things, so much as is necessary to carry them through their journey toward heaven. (Puritan Jonathan Edwards)
